Medina is celebrated for containing the mosque of Muhammad, and so ranks as the second holiest city of Islam, after Mecca. It was also the place where Muhammad and his followers left after attacks against them in Mecca, now known as the Hijrah.

About Medina

Medina covers an area of 340.7 sq. miles (883 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.3 million people being a city in the Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia. It is the second holiest city in Islam, and the burial place of Muhammad.

Mount Uhud

Mt. Uhud is the name of a mountain near Medina. It was the site of the second battle between Muslim and Meccan forces. The Battle of Uhud was fought on 23 March, 625 CE, between a force from the small Muslim community of Medina, in what is now north-western Arabia, and a force from Mecca.
